Samsung phones can take screenshots using the default Android commands. Almost all Android phones can use the same button combination to take a screenshot.

Power + volume down

  1. Press and hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time.
  2. Look for a notification that the screenshot was taken.

Power button menu

  1. Press and hold the power button.
  2. A menu will open, choose Screenshot.
  3. Look for a notification that the screenshot was taken.

Samsung phones can take screenshots with much less effort. With hand swiping enabled, you can take a screenshot by swiping the edge of your hand across the screen.

How to enable hand swipe screenshots

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Look for Palm swipe to capture.
  3. Toggle the button next to it to enable the feature.

Since Samsung devices operate on Android, they also work with Google Assistant. Without using your hands, just say, "Ok Google, take a screenshot.”

You should see a notification pop up to confirm the screenshot was taken.

By default, screenshots are saved in the Gallery app. The Gallery app can be found among other apps in the app tray. Sort by date to bring your recent screenshots to the top of the list.

If you still can't take a screenshot, try some of these steps.

Can’t find screenshots

If your screenshots aren't appearing in the Gallery, you may need to look for them with the file manager (found under Settings > Storage & USB). If you still can't find them, try taking another screenshot. Make sure you see the confirmation notification that a screenshot was captured.

Key combination isn’t working

Sometimes the power + volume down button won't capture a screenshot when pressed. Restart the phone and try again. If it still won't take, try using one of the other methods listed above.

Hand swipe won’t work

If swiping your hand across the screen won't take a screenshot, double-check the setting. The feature has to be enabled to work. Make sure your hands aren't covered with gloves and the screen is clean.

You can take a screenshot of anything that appears on the Android screen. If you're running the latest version of Android, you can take a screenshot from within the power menu.
