How To Add a Watermark to a Google Doc

For those who want more from their Google Docs experience, users are now able to add image watermarks! It’s incredibly accessible and user-friendly for anyone who needs to indicate file ownership or status.

We’ve already shown you how to share a Google Doc, but we’ve yet to show you how to add an image or text watermark! In fact, you couldn’t easily add a watermark until September 2021.

While you can always add images above or behind text, there’s a much easier way to add a watermark now. Read on to find out how!

Obviously, we can’t add a watermark without a document to put it on!

  • Click the Insert menu in the top bar of the document.
  • Navigate and click Watermark, a sidebar will appear on the right of the screen.

If you want to add a watermark image, upload the file by clicking the large box labeled “Select Image”. You can change the image’s scale and whether to fade it or not.

To add watermark text, click the Text tab and type in the text box. You can customize the font, size, bold/italics/underline, transparency, and positioning.

When ready, click Done!

Both text and image watermarks will appear on each page of the document.
