When it comes to smartphones, iPhone users tend to overlook some of the main reasons we have a phone in the first place: phone calls. Often, this is overlooked because iPhones have advanced and practically become mini, portable computers that have an amazing amount of access to any site and feature we could hope for.

That's why getting back to the basic capabilities of your iPhone can be so important. Making calls and adding contacts is an easy process, but it comes with many more steps and capabilities than ever before. Now, you can add addresses (email and mailing), add websites, make notes for that each contact, and even change a contact's ringtone, so that you always know who's calling as soon as you hear the phone ring.

In this guide, I show you how to add a contact, edit a contact, add extra information to your contacts, and delete a contact. So, if you aren't super tech-savvy and need a bit of help with these basic but important tasks, this guide should help you become a pro in no time!

Let's get into it!

Now, let's get into how to edit a contact. Whether you want to add more information to that contact such as email address or mailing address, or you want to change the information you've already input, editing a contact is super simple. There's also a ton of information you can add and edit within a contact that many iPhone users overlook.

Now, let's look into what we can edit or add to your contacts! There are so many options.

Information you can edit or add to a contact:

  1. Phone numbers- Not only can you edit the current phone number by giving it a click, but you can click "+ add phone" to add another phone number such as a work phone.
  2. Email- You can add emails until your heart's content. What I love about this is that they will auto-populate the emails when you search for them in the Mail app.
  3. Ringtones- You can add a special ringtone or text tone so that you recognize who is calling or texting without picking up your phone.
  4. Miscellaneous information- You can add a contact's website, mailing address, birthday, special date (anniversary for example), nickname or related names, IM (instant message) account, and even make notes about that person. If you own a business, you can even use the note section to put facts about a client or potential client that will jog your memory about them before giving them a call!
How to Delete a Contact

Deleting a contact on your iPhone is probably the easiest of the three contact management steps. I have illustrated the steps as if you have already opened contacts and are looking at the contact in question. If you aren't, first do the following:

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Click contacts at the bottom.

Now, let's delete that contact:

  1. Click the contact you want to delete.
  2. Click "edit" in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Scroll down and click "delete contact."
  4. Click "delete contact" again when prompted.

Voila! Contact gone.
