If you are new to Mac, or simply don't consider yourself tech-savvy, you may be struggling to do some of the everyday tasks necessary to use your Mac. You may have only recently set up your Mac, migrated data from a PC or backup, and/or are trying to do some of the steps you need to do to start using your Mac.

Mail is one of the most used macOS apps, and for good reason. Everyone has email. In fact, it's necessary in order to have an Apple ID, set up social media accounts, or store your data in iCloud.

So, in this step-by-step guide, I show you how to add a new account to the Mail app on your Mac, so that you can get access to your email account on your Mac as soon as possible. Let's get started!

Open the Mail App

First, open the Mail app on your Mac.

Click "Mail"

Next, click "Mail" in the upper left-hand corner of the Menu Bar.

Click "Add Account"

Select "Add Account" from the drop down.

Select the Mail Account Type

Choose the Mail account type. In my case, mine is Google.

Click "Continue"

Click "Continue."

Enter Your Email and Click "Next"

Enter in your email address and click "Next."

Enter Your Password and Click "Next"

Enter in your password and click "Next."

Complete Two-Step Verification

Complete Two-Step Verification. You may be asked for a code that is sent to your phone number or other various two-step verification methods. Follow the on-screen steps and move to the next screen.

Click "Allow"

Click "Allow" to allow your Mac access to your Mail account.

Select What Apps You Want to Use and "Done"

Click the boxes next to the apps you would like to have access to your Mail account and click "Done."

Allow Your Mail to Download

Now, it's time for a little patience. Allow your mail to download. This could take minutes or hours, depending on how much mail you have.

Change the name of your Mail account in the Mac Mail app.
