How To Connect an Oculus Quest 2 to a PC via USB

Whether you want to include those around you or plan to record gameplay for content, being able to connect your Oculus Quest 2 to a computer is important. Thankfully, there are ways to connect your VR headset to a PC, all provided by Oculus (or Meta) themselves!

This guide will walk you through connecting your Quest 2 to your pc via the wired USB method. This is the best method for those wanting to stream content, as it provides the best latency and frame rate.

You can download the app directly from Oculus’ website! Make sure you install it onto the C:/ drive and get a snack ready because it’s a hefty installation.

You’ll have to sign in and go through the guided process of connecting your headset for the first time. It’s super easy and so long as you did the last step properly, you’ll have no trouble getting connected.

Once your space is set, you can move onto the next step.

The Oculus Quest 2 does not come with a wire to connect your device to a PC, so you’ll have to buy one. While you can spend $75 on the official Oculus link cable, you can also get a more affordable one from Amazon.

I recommend KIWI design’s USB C to A cable. It’s sturdy in design and long enough that you can connect from across an entire room if needed.

The Quest 2 will have an on-screen prompt to allow access to data, make sure to click “Deny”.

It seems counterproductive, but this setting can cause weird connection issues between the PC and headset. The only time you want to give access to data would be if you’re trying to access the media files on the Quest 2.

If the popup doesn’t appear, simply unplug and re-connect the headset and make sure the Oculus app is open on screen.

The Oculus Link is the wired connection version of Airlink, used for wireless connections to a PC.

To connect to the Oculus Link, go to Quick Settings and click the “Oculus Link” button. The headset will go dark for a few seconds, but a new home screen will appear on your Quest 2. This is reminiscent of the Oculus Rift 2’s home UI.

You’re now ready to begin playing! Open up a game on the Oculus Quest 2, and it will mirror onto your PC monitor!

The following steps will show you how to mirror (or cast) the Oculus Quest 2 to a PC through a wired connection. For wireless connection, follow the instructions in our appropriate guide.

Open File Explorer
Go to where you downloaded the Oculus application. Most likely, this will be your C drive (C:\Program Files)
Open the “Oculus” folder
Open “Support” and then open the “oculus-diagnostics” subfolder
Run OculusMirror.exe

I’d recommend making a desktop shortcut for that .exe file, so it’s easier for you to access in the future.
