How to Uninstall TotalFinder

TotalFinder is a great alternative to Mac OS X's default Finder application. It adds a number of features such as window tabbing. However, I found myself not using these features often enough and decided to uninstall it. This used to be a tricky operation, only able to be performed in terminal.

Now, TotalFinder has made it a bit easier to uninstall the software. We'll show you two ways to uninstall TotalFinder in this guide.

Binaryage

This is the easiest way to uninstall TotalFinder.

Click the TotalFinder folder icon in your top-right menu bar.
Select Uninstall TotalFinder.
Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall TotalFinder.

Navigate to Applications > Utilities > Terminal.

Paste the below text into Terminal and press return (enter).

open "/Applications/TotalFinder.app/Contents/Resources/TotalFinder.bundle/Contents/Resources/TotalFinder Uninstaller.app"

(Optional) Now, to completely remove any remaining files, paste:

rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.binaryage.totalfinder.plist
