How to Uninstall TotalFinder

TotalFinder is a great alternative to Mac OS X's default Finder application. It adds a number of features such as window tabbing. However, I found myself not using these features often enough and decided to uninstall it. This used to be a tricky operation, only able to be performed in terminal.

Now, TotalFinder has made it a bit easier to uninstall the software. We'll show you two ways to uninstall TotalFinder in this guide.

TotalFinder Uninstall menu

This is the easiest way to uninstall TotalFinder.

  • Click the TotalFinder folder icon in your top-right menu bar.
  • Select Uninstall TotalFinder.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall TotalFinder.
  • Navigate to Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
  • Paste the below text into Terminal and press return (enter).
    open "/Applications/TotalFinder.app/Contents/Resources/TotalFinder.bundle/Contents/Resources/TotalFinder Uninstaller.app"

(Optional) Now, to completely remove any remaining files, paste:

rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.binaryage.totalfinder.plist
