Photoshop isn't cheap, but for many creators in 2019—it’s almost essential.

How much is Photoshop?

There are three payment options for Photoshop:

  • $31 per month
  • $20 per month with an annual contract
  • $239 once per year

If you need to edit images but don't want to pay those prices—don't worry. There are options out there for you!

The easiest way to get the full version of Photoshop for free immediately is to download the trial version. After installing, you can use Photoshop free of charge for a full week.

You can download a free trial of Photoshop from the official Adobe website.

If you have a mobile device—phone or tablet—you can use the free mobile version of Photoshop. It doesn't have as many features as the desktop version, but it might have just what you need.

There are Photoshop apps available for both Android and Apple devices called Adobe Photoshop Fix (available only on the Apple App Store) and Adobe Photoshop Mix (available on both iTunes and Google Play.

Photoshop CS2 used to be available as a download on the Adobe website for anyone who had purchased it in the past. Many people took this opportunity to download the software, as it had no purchase verification requirement. As of 2019, Adobe no longer offers Photoshop CS2 as a free download and provides no official support for the software.

If you need professional image editing features at no cost, consider a free alternative. There are several open-source applications that achieve many of the same functions found in Photoshop. Here are a few to help your research:

  • GIMP - This stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. I will personally vouch for this software. It's definitely come in handy over the years when Photoshop was out of reach. It has plenty of tools, uses layers, and can handle transparency. It's a really useful program that you shouldn't overlook.
  • Inkscape - If you need to work with vectors, this application may be more up your alley since it handles more like Adobe Illustrator. It's open-source and runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
  • Paint.net - This program was originally designed to replace the default Microsoft Paint application. It's free to download and comes with many useful features—from layer management to drawing tools.

If you ultimately need Photoshop and an alternative will not work, you may have to settle for buying the software at a discount. It can be beneficial to use Adobe Creative Cloud for access to the complete Adobe Software Suite. This has the benefit of free updates and access to the latest version of each application.

CC membership is offered at a discount for students and teachers. This isn't the same as getting it for free, but it's definitely cheaper than paying full price.
