Images are easy to resize in Photoshop. All you need is a picture to edit and Photoshop. Any edition will do, but menus can sometimes move around between versions.

You can also resize individual layers instead of whole images.

Image Open in Photoshop

Import the image you want to resize to Photoshop. You can do this by dragging and dropping the image to the Photoshop workspace or by using the File > Open menu.

Photoshop Image Size Menu

To adjust the image size, we'll be using the Image Size menu.

In the latest version of Photoshop, Photoshop 2020, it can be found under the Image drop-down menu. Look for a selection titled Image Size.

Photoshop Image Size Percentage

One way to adjust the image size is by percentage. Change the drop-down menu next to Width or Height to Percent.

This setting allows you to adjust the image size in relation to itself. For example, you can double the image size by setting the Width and Height fields to 200. To halve an image size, set them to 50.

Photoshop Image Pixel Size

If you want to set a specific pixel height and width, set the drop-down menu to Pixel.

If the Width and Height fields are linked together, any pixel setting entry will automatically adjust the other field to preserve the image ratio. If you want to skew the image, unlink the two fields. This will allow you to adjust the pixel settings independently.

Photoshop Image Resize Options

You'll notice additional options from the drop-down menus by Width and Height. There are plenty of other parameters than can be used to adjust the image height.

You can experiment with the other options to see what they're capable of. For example, the imperial and metric measurements are useful for designing projects to real-world specifications. The percentage and pixel-based adjustments are ideal for editing digital content.

Photoshop Resize Layer

It's also possible to adjust an image size for a single layer. This will keep the overall image size the same while only modifying one layer.

  1. Select the layer you want to resize.
  2. Windows users press Control + T. Mac users press Command + T.
  3. A new box will appear around the edge of the layer image. Drag the corners to change the size. Hold Shift while clicking and dragging to preserve the image size ratio.

When you're done adjusting the size, press Enter or Return on your keyboard.
