How to Disable Microsoft Teams on Startup in Windows 10

Three methods for stopping Teams on startup.

Disable Microsoft Teams

First, try to disable the start-up settings in the Microsoft Teams application.

  1. Launch Microsoft Teams.
  2. In the upper-right corner, click your profile icon.
  3. A drop-down menu will appear. Choose Settings.
  4. A new window will open, uncheck the box for Auto-start application

Alternatively, you can stop Microsoft Teams from launching on boot with Task Manager.

  1. Open Task Manager. Use Ctrl + Alt + Esc, or right-click an empty spot in the taskbar and choose Task Manager.
  2. Navigate to the Startup tab.
  3. Look for Microsoft Teams and choose Disable.
Disable Microsoft Teams Registry

If Task Manager won't get the job done, you can always modify the registry. This is usually a last resort as any errors can cause issues in the OS. Exercise caution when editing registry settings.

  1. Open the Start Menu and type Registry Editor.
  2. Select the Registry Editor from the list.
  3. Navigate to this folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
  4. In the right-hand panel, look for an entry for Microsoft Teams and Delete it.
Enable Microsoft Teams

If you would like to set Teams to launch on boot, enable the startup settings in the Teams application.

  1. Launch Microsoft Teams.
  2. Click on your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
  4. Check the box to Auto-start application
