How to Change the Background on Zoom

Change the background behind you when using Zoom.

You can hide the background behind you on Zoom with the Virtual Background tool. This feature is designed to completely hide the background by replacing it with a custom image. If you have a green screen, you can use it to improve the quality of the output.

Zoom settings

Launch Zoom and click on your profile icon in the top-right corner. Choose Settings from the menu.

If you're on mobile, join a meeting and tap the three dots in the bottom-right corner. Open the More menu.

Zoom Virtual Background settings

Look for Virtual Background and select it to open the background settings screen.

Zoom provides a few backgrounds to choose by default. Select any of the listed backgrounds to assign it.

Be sure to tick the green screen box if you're using one.

Zoom Custom Virtual Background

Maybe you want to use a custom background. On the Virtual Background settings screen, look for a + icon. It will open a pop-up dialogue with the option to upload a custom image.

You can remove any uploaded backgrounds with the X icon in the top-left corner of the image.
