Since studios and developers first began creating video games with vocalized lines in the early 1990s, the quality of voice acting has increased in tandem with the number of famous names participating in video game acting. Ranging from famous movie actors to television actors to animated voice actors and more, these names have helped bring some of our most beloved characters to life.

There are many, many video game characters that have been voiced by famous actors. We'd need a bigger list to cover all of them, but here are 30 Video Game Characters Voiced by Famous Actors! There will be spoilers ahead as I plan to give a basic summary to accompany each video game for those unfamiliar with the games themselves.

Patrick Stewart.

The fifth game in the The Elder Scrolls series, Oblivion, is known for its vast open-world landscape that takes players through the world of Cyrodiil. After customizing a PC, players start their game in a prison cell where their sentence is interrupted by the emperor Uriel Septim VII who is voiced by none other than Patrick Stewart.

The Star Trek: The Next Generation star might not voice Uriel for long, but there's no mistaking the rich tones as he brings the somber emperor Uriel to life. In fact, Stewart was so well-liked by the crew of Bethesda Softworks that he was later invited back to voice the Daedric Prince Molag Bal in The Elder Scrolls Online. Still, Stewart's memorable performance as the emperor remains one of the most memorable of the series.

Sean Bean.

Our second character from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Martin Septim, son of the aforementioned Uriel Septim, is voiced by prominent British actor Sean Bean. In the game, Martin is the emperor's illegitimate son, making him the last emperor of the Septim Dynasty. As far as the main questline goes, Martin is the main NPC that you'll encounter as you run around the province of Cyrodiil. He's one of the voices you hear the most, other than the small collection of actors that vocalize the many citizens and side characters throughout the game.

That said, Martin's character is stoic, appreciative, and ultimately kind, all of which is reflected in Bean's vocal acting. Bean himself has an impressive list of movies and television shows under his belt and is known for several popular roles, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Game of Thrones, National Treasure, and Goldeneye. Impressive work, Bean!

Hayley Joel Osment.

Today, many gamers remember the Kingdom Hearts trilogy as being a cornerstone for their first gaming experiences, and it was praised for its action role-playing elements and the collaboration between Square Enix and Disney. Square Enix, for context, provides characters from the Final Fantasy franchise, creating a large cast for players to interact with. In the game, players take control of the main character, Sora, as he journeys through the many interconnected worlds trying to defeat the main antagonist, Xehanort. And who voices Sora? None other than Haley Joel Osment!

Osment began voicing Sora during the first game, which was released in 2002 when Osment was 14. What's most impressive about Osment's commitment to voicing Sora is that he voiced the character in the franchise's many spin-off games (just over a dozen for context). Osment was in several blockbuster films, including Forrest Gump, The Sixth Sense, and Secondhand Lions, to name a few. On top of this, he's also made appearances in several television shows, including What We Do In The Shadows and Future Man.

Christopher Lee.

Another character straight from the Kingdom Hearts franchise, Ansem the Wise first appears in Kingdom Hearts II, introducing himself as DiZ. At the beginning of the game, DiZ appears to be an antagonist, consumed by vengeance. However, midway through the game, DiZ reveals himself to be Ansem the Wise, a friend to King Mickey Mouse.

Christopher Lee was a famous British actor, singer, and author. With his booming baritone voice and undeniable screen presence, Lee was able to bring many characters to life over the course of his 69-year career span. Sadly, Lee passed away at the age of 93 in 2015, but his memory lives on in the many roles he created.

Gary Oldman.

Another famous actor from England, Gary Oldman, has brought many video game characters to life, but few are as memorable as his performance as Ignitus from the The legend of Spyro. In the game, Ignitus is the leader of the Dragon Guardians and a father figure to Spyro. Throughout the series, Ignitus is known for imparting words of wisdom.

Gary Oldman is an actor and filmmaker who is regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation. Know for his versatility and the intensity of his acting style, Oldman is known for his roles in Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Fifth Element, and the Harry Potter series.

Elijah Wood.

Our second character from the Spyro the Dragon series, Spyro himself is voiced by Elijah Wood. Known for his performance in The Lord of the Rings as Frodo Baggins, Wood is known for other roles such as Avalon, Flipper, and his role in the dark comedy Wilfred.

In the game, Spyro, a rare and punchy purple dragon, is one of the final hopes for saving the world from violent apes. Spyro is young, hopeful, compassionate, and determined and Wood was able to bring this spirit to life through The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon.

Liam Neeson.

The first of three characters from the Fallout series, Liam Neeson, was responsible for bringing James, the playable character's father, to life. James was a member of a team of scientists who wanted to purify the water of the D.C. Wasteland following a nuclear apocalypse that rendered the land nearly unsurvivable. James is characterized as passionate, determined, and focused on his mission, depending on how you play your character.

Neeson is an Oscar-nominated Irish actor who is well known for portraying intense roles. Since his first role as Jesus Christ in the religious film Pilgrim's Progress in 1979. Since then, Neeson has starred in over 100 films, over 25 television shows, and five video games. Impressive filmography, Neeson!

Felicia Day.

Felicia Day is a long-term gamer and blended this love of video games into her acting and writing career with her vocalization of Veronica Santangelo in Fallout: New Vegas. New Vegas, while not an immediate sequel to Fallout 3, takes place in post-apocalyptic Vegas, where playable characters complete missions across the map as they save (or doom) New Vegas.

During the game, characters can choose followers to help them in combat, carry loot, and offer humorous commentary as they travel the Mojave desert. One such follower is Veronica Santangelo, a Brotherhood of Steel scribe with a penchant for punching (she carries a Power Fist). Veronica is funny and plucky, perfect for Day's bright voice.

Matthew Perry.

Our third and final character voiced by a famous actor from the Fallout universe, Benny from Fallout: New Vegas was voiced by Friends actor Matthew Perry! The side character who shoots the playable character in the head during the game's intro, Benny, is a curious character in a checkered suit with a golden gun and a collection of strange, 1950s-esque lines. These funny lines were brought to life by Perry.

Perry's rise into fame happened in tandem with the rise in popularity of the 1990s sitcom Friends where Perry played the sarcastic Chandler Muriel Bing. Chandler was remembered, not only for his sarcasm but for his quick wit and dry humor. Benny might not have had many of these lines himself, but there's no denying Perry brought some special pizzazz to the role.

Keith David.

The Mass Effect trilogy is known for being a sweeping space epic with otherworldly exploration, alien lifeforms and planets, gripping character development, and a collection of characters voiced by famous actors. This is especially true of actor and producer Keith David, who voiced the Mass Effect character Captain David Anderson. Anderson is the stoic war hero and captain of the original SSV Normandy spacecraft.

David has an impressive number of vocal acting credits beneath his belt, appearing in the Halo series as The Arbiter, the original Fallout game, Mortal Kombat 11, and Saints Row. He was also the voice of Goliath, the gargoyle leader in Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles.

Seth Green.

Born with Vrolik syndrome, or brittle bone disease, Jeff "Joker" Moreau is the quippy pilot of the SSV Normandy who always has a funny line or eight at the ready throughout the Mass Effect original trilogy. A fan favorite for many reasons, Joker has a knack for interrupting cut scenes by speaking over the ship's intercoms while balancing the perfect oneliners. What makes Joker even better is the fact that he's voiced by Seth Green.

Seth Green is an American actor, producer, writer, and director. He's known for his work on Adult Swim's Robot Chicken, his role in the Austin Powers series, Guardians of the Galaxy (volumes 1 and 2), and for writing and directing his first film Changeland. He's well-known for his humorous acting and voice acting roles.

Martin Sheen.

Our third and final character from the original Mass Effect trilogy, Martin Sheen, is responsible for bringing the series' character, the Illusive Man, to life. Throughout the second and third Mass Effect games, the Illusive Man is the mysterious boogeyman and well-informed leader of the violent organization Cerberus. The Illusive Man is the character who assists the character in defeating the second game's main antagonist – the Collectors.

After receiving recognition for his leading role in Apocalypse Now in 1979, Martin Sheen began a long and successful career as a professional actor. He's known for starring in shows like The West Wing and, most recently, Netflix's Grace and Frankie. He's also the father of Charlie Sheen!

Jamie Clayton.

Mass Effect: Andromeda wasn't as well-liked as the original trilogy, but, similar to the previous games, Andromeda was full of interesting characters, some of which, like Jien Garson, were voiced by actresses like Jamie Clayton. In the game, Garson is an eccentric billionaire who is ultimately responsible for funding the Andromeda mission, the mission that would take the citizens of the Milkey Way galaxy to the nearby Andromeda galaxy.

Clayton is an American actress and model. She's best known for starring as Nomi Marks in Netflix's series Sense8 and the third season of Designated Survivor. She's also a makeup artist and was a co-host on VH1's makeover show TRANSform Me.

Christopher Walken.

Released in 2003, True Crime: Streets of LA follows the story of loose cannon ex-police officer Nick Kang. He becomes a member of an elite police unit assembled to defend Los Angeles from a nefarious plot involving mobsters. Officer Kang encounters several characters throughout the game, including the cheesy-lined office George, who is voiced by American actor Christopher Walken.

Walken is a household name in cinema with a career that has spanned five decades and over 100 movies and television shows. Walken is a character actor, which is an actor who plays primarily unusual and eccentric supporting characters, much like George.

Elliot Page.

Beyond: Two Souls, was an interactive drama written and directed by Quantic Dream's founder and CEO David Cage. Beyond: Two Souls follows Jodi, who has had a psychic connection with an entity named Aiden since her birth. After Aiden almost kills another kid, Jodi is sent to live under the custody of Nathan Dawkins, a member of the US Department of Paranormal Activity. Jodi is voiced and played by Elliot Page.

Elliot Page is a Canadian actor and producer known for his roles in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, Juno, Inception, and for reoccurring roles on shows such as Trailer Park Boys. For Beyond: Two Souls, Page not only did the voice acting but the motion-capture acting for the role, too!

Mark Hamill.

One of the most enigmatic, complicated, and well-loved characters in comic books is The Joker, particularly when The Joker is voiced by Mark Hamill. In Batman games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, and Batman: Arkham Knight, where Joker was a hallucinatory NPC I wish I could play](ngu0zdg3ntc!), Hamill voices this charismatic lunatic as players navigate the various Arkhams, defeating villains and bringing slightly ambiguous justice.

Fans of Star Wars will recognize Mark Hamill's name as the young and impressionable Luke Skywalker (at least in Episodes 4 and 5). An American actor, voice actor, and writer, Hamill's career began with a reoccurring role on the soap opera General Hospital and The Texas Wheelers. He stumbled into auditions for Star Wars after his friend referred him to auditions. Star Wars was an unexpected success, and Hamill's career took off.

Kiefer Sutherland.

Whereas Christopher Walken is a household acting name, the Call of Duty series is a household name for video games. The first-person shooter franchise by Activision released World at War in 2008. It's the first title in the Black Ops storyline, and it was the first game in the series to feature zombies in a special game mode. Focusing on WWII, players travel to various fronts worldwide, meeting characters like Sergeant Roebuck, who is voiced by Kiefer Sutherland.

The Lost Boys actor, producer, director, and singer is also known for playing Jack Bauer in the Fox series 24 for which he won an Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Satellite Award. Sutherland lends his gravelly baritone to bringing this intense character to life.

Kristen Bell.

Assassin's Creed is a series that is loved by many for its unique stories, expansive maps, and dynamic sneaking gameplay. The action-packed parkour simulator was first released in 2007. It follows the playable character, Desmond Miles, as he uses a machine called the Animus that allows him to enter the memories of his ancestors and interact with that world. Desmond is abducted by the mysterious order that controls the Animus and meets Lucy. Lucy helps Desmond interact with the Animus, and she's voiced by Kristen Bell.

What's most notable about Mickey is that he was voiced by actor Alan Tudyk.

He's also a practiced voice actor, having brought many characters to life before his performance as Mickey. His emotional and vibrant performances have helped create nearly 130 memorable characters!

Keanu Reeves.

Cyberpunk 2077 was a long-awaited game that was met by much controversy. As players began exploring Night City as character V, they discovered the many glitches and issues the game had. The game had immense promise and was meant to follow CD Projekt Red's successful release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015. The hype and excitement felt for Cyberpunk 2077 increased exponentially when it was announced the Keanu Reeves would voice character V's sidekick Johnny Silverhand.

Keanu Reeves has been a household name since his role in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in 1989, but Reeves launched into true stardom after he played Neo in The Matrix trilogy. In Cyberpunk 2077, Reeves's character Johnny Silverhand is charismatic, charming, and impulsive, an ex-singer and rocker who's angry at corporations and capitalism. Regardless of how you feel about Cyberpunk 2077, you've got to appreciate Silverhand's angsty character.

Ronda Rousey.

When you think of video games that defined the industry, it's hard not to think about Mortal Kombat. The massive franchise started in 1992 when the first game was developed as a fantasy-themed fighting game that featured several characters who fought to the death in Mortal Kombat. It was the first video game to feature a secret fighter that could be unlocked once a player fulfilled a set of requirements! Since its original conception, Mortal Kombat has gone through several iterations, including the latest version, Mortal Kombat 11. And who voiced the badass soldier Sonya A. Blade in the 11th? The different areas of the map are easily accessible by stealing cars throughout the game (hence the Grand Theft Auto part). After the 3rd Street Saints saved the PC's life, players begin completing quests to help the Saints gain control of the city. Along the way, PC's interact with various characters, one of which is Tanya Winters, a Vice Kings lieutenant in Saints Row. Winters is voiced by Mila Kunis.

To secure her role in That '70s Show, Kunis and her family lied about her age, telling them she was "gonna be 18" when, in fact, she was 14 when the show began shooting. Her gravelly voice was perfect for the sassy Tanya Winters, even if she didn't reprise the role in Saints Row IV.

Who do you think of first when you think about video games? That's the question we asked ourselves at Howchoo when making this list, which was a team effort.
