How to Clear Your Browser History in Any Browser

If you've got tracks to cover, you need to clear your browser history. Clearing your history is different from clearing your browser cache. Cached files include saved passwords or cached data that help websites load faster. Clearing your history will only remove the browser record of visited website addresses.

Clear Browser History Chrome

You can clear your browser history in Chrome from within the browser.

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Open the menu in the top right, represented with 3 dots.
  3. Go to History.
  4. Click History again.
  5. On this screen, you can remove individual items or click Clear browsing data on the left to remove everything.
Clear Firefox History

Your browser history can be deleted in Firefox through its settings.

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Open the menu in the top-right represented with 3 lines.
  3. Go to Options.
  4. Click Privacy and Security on the right-hand side.
  5. Scroll down and choose Clear History. A dialogue box will appear.
  6. Choose which data you want to delete by checking the boxes or use the dropdown menu to choose everything. Make sure Form & Search History is checked.
  7. Click Clear Now.
Safari clear browser history

Clearing the history is easy in Safari.

  1. Open the Safari browser.
  2. Go to History.
  3. Choose Clear History.
  4. A pop-up menu will appear with options to delete your history.
Clear Internet Explorer History

Your history can be cleared through the Internet Options window in Internet Explorer.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to Tools (this looks like a gear icon in more recent versions).
  3. Choose Internet Options.
  4. Go to the General tab.
  5. Look for the Browsing history section.
  6. Click Delete.
  7. Choose what history data you want to remove.
  8. Click Delete.
Clear Edge History

Edge has a built-in feature to delete browser history data.

  1. Open the Edge browser.
  2. In the top-right corner, open the Options menu represented by an icon that looks like 3 dots.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Open Privacy & Security on the left.
  5. Look under Clear browsing data.
  6. Click Choose what you want to clear.
  7. Choose the data you want to remove. Make sure Browsing history is checked.
  8. Click Clear.
