If you want to start streaming, you may be looking for free streaming software—that’s where OBS comes in!

What is OBS?

OBS stands for “Open Broadcasting Software”. As the name suggests, it’s completely open-source and designed for broadcasting and streaming on a variety of platforms. OBS Stream Settings

Open the settings menu under File > Settings. A window will open, choose Stream from the left panel.

OBS Streaming Service

OBS is compatible with many leading streaming platforms. From the Service drop-down list, choose the platform to which you want to stream. OBS supports mainstream platforms like:

  • Twitch
  • YouTube / YouTube Gaming
  • Facebook
  • Restream.io
  • Twitter / Periscope

But you can find tons more by clicking Show All….

OBS Stream Key

Your stream key links your video feed to your social media profile when it’s time to stream. Each platform has a unique way of finding this information. Enter your stream key in the field. You may also choose the option to link your account instead (if it is present).

How to find your stream key

If you aren’t sure where to find it, you can get help within OBS. When you choose your service, click Get Stream Key. A browser window will open with information on what steps to take.

Once your video feed is set up and ready to use, you can start streaming! Select the "Start Streaming" button in the bottom right corner of the window.
